About Me

This is me.

My name is Alicia, and I am studying piano pedagogy at a small university in South Carolina.

I love college, and I love music. Although I’m majoring in piano, I also play violin and enjoy singing. Most of all, I love writing music of all kinds and studying music theory and history. I’m pretty much happy when I’m doing anything related to music (although I’m not crazy about performing) – listening, writing, or making music with friends.

I come by it naturally – both of my parents are musicians, and music has always been a part of my life. I wouldn’t be studying music now if they hadn’t forced me to keep practicing and encouraged me through junior high apathy. They each have their own areas of expertise, and I always consider their advice, both musical and personal.

Our family moved to the Philippines when I was 8 and still lives there now. Growing up in another country allowed me to have so many experiences and learn so many things that I never would have otherwise. I don’t know if I’ll ever live there long-term again, but it’s still a special treat to get to go back for visits, and I miss it when I’m away!

I am a Christian, which means that I believe that the Bible is God’s Word and that Jesus Christ is God, and I am trusting Christ’s righteousness rather than my own good works for salvation. I could say much more, but I’ll leave that for later.

Random facts –

I am the oldest child in my family.

College students don’t have much time for hobbies, and most of mine revolve around music. But I also love reading, both for learning and relaxation. I like fashion and enjoy shopping at vintage and thrift stores for unique items. I recently acted in my first play, and I’m hoping I have the chance to do it again sometime. I don’t enjoy exercising.

I speak Tagalog/Filipino (the language with the least exceptions to grammatical rules) and am currently struggling with French (the language with the most exceptions!).

I enjoy watching old time movies (Casablanca), period films (Pride and Prejudice, the mini-series), romantic comedies, and mysteries (Agatha Christie’s Poirot).

I love fountain pens.
